My father has a 1949 Ford 8N that the rear axle/wheel seals leak on terribly. He has replaced them a few times, but the will start leaking again in very short order. And needless to say the rear brakes don't work great when covered with grease.Does anyone have a fix for this? New seals are not the answer it seems... I thought i read someplace that the 1950 model 8N's used a double, was this due to the leaking and would that seal work on that this tractor.Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks

Go to www.agriculture.com. They have a talk section and within that a machinery talk area. Post your question there. You should get several responses within a short period of time. Those folks are farmers who get into all types of repairs.
A guy named Llamas seems to be the resident expert on 2N/8N/9N tractors. ....

I have an 8N that had the same problem. I believe that ours is also a '49. There is a guy about 40 miles from here that specializes in rebuilding 8N's in all conditions. If you are desparate (and close to Nebraska?), I would be happy to provide the name and phone, he might tell you over the phone. email me for the number. ....
